Anderson snowshoes, North Yarmouth, ca. 1936
Contributed by North Yarmouth Historical SocietyDescription
Clifford G. Anderson made these bearpaw snowshoes in his business on Memorial Highway, North Yarmouth. The business was started in 1928, and Anderson also made and sold baseball bats and lobster traps.
In the process of making snowshoes, Anderson cured his own leather and soaked the rawhide in Toddy Brook. Family members recalled that Anderson remarked at how fat the Toddy Brook trout were from chewing up the stray pieces of his rawhide.
